More than 150 attendees gathered for the SSPEED Center's 10th Conference, "Post-Harvey Climate and Flood Impacts on the Built Environment "at the Rice Glasscock School of Continuing Studies. Over the two-day conference, over 30 top academic, consulting and governmental experts presented on a wide variety of topics, including Urban Design & Policy for Flood Protection, Climate Change and Recent Storms, Impact of the Big Freeze and Energy Systems, COVID in the Environment, and Institute for Disaster Resilient Texas. We have heard a lot of good feedback on the success of the conference and we look forward to regathering in the fall of 2023. Learn more here.

Bedient Research Alumna named Assistant Professor

Congratulations to SSPEED’s former Postdoctoral Researcher, Antonia Sebastian. Dr. Sebastian recently joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an Assistant Professor of Flood Resilience in the Department of Geological Sciences, and is joint appointed within the Environment, Ecology and Energy Program (E3P).

Bedient Research Group presents at AGU

Four SSPEED posters were presented at AGU's Fall Meeting in San Francisco, California. Fall Meeting is the largest international Earth and space science meeting in the world.

Bedient Named Department Chair

June 13, 2019

Bedient was named Civil and Environmental Engineering Department Chair in July 2019 and will serve through 2022. He joined Rice Faculty in 1975 and previously served as Department Chair from 1992-1999.
